ELDER NOMINATIONS

The selection of elders is an important matter. The Nominating Team and the elders are in the process of formulating the nominations to be presented to the congregation in June for confirmation. Your suggestions help the Nominating Team identify men that the members of the congregation feel should be considered for leadership positions. Our HPCC bylaws state that, “All elders of the congregation must be members of the local church for at least one year before their term of service begins.” The term of service would begin on September 1, 2024 and end on August 31, 2025. Men presently serving as elders can be nominated to serve again next year.

Please take the time to remind yourself of the qualifications of an elder as listed in I Timothy 3:1-7 (The Message): "3:1-7 If anyone wants to provide leadership in the church, good! But there are preconditions: A leader must be well-thought-of, committed to his wife, cool and collected, accessible, and hospitable. He must know what he’s talking about, not be overfond of wine, not pushy but gentle, not thin-skinned, not money-hungry. He must handle his own affairs well, attentive to his own children and having their respect. For if someone is unable to handle his own affairs, how can he take care of God’s church? He must not be a new believer, lest the position go to his head and the Devil trip him up. Outsiders must think well of him, or else the Devil will figure out a way to lure him into his trap."

In indicating your suggestions, we assume that you do not know of anything that would scripturally disqualify a man on your list from being an elder.

If you want to write a comment along with your suggestions, please feel free to do so. Comments that would be most helpful are examples of leadership and insight into the spiritual character of the individual. That is, what is special about this individual that you feel sets him apart from other qualified men?
