End-Of-Year Update (2024)
God has provided. HP has grieved heavily this year, yet God has provided in many ways to sustain us. We have church members who experienced housing, family, and health crises, yet God has provided in many ways. We began the year with significant facility challenges: aging flooring and parking lots, restrooms that looked like they were from the last century – they were - and the need to reevaluate our property. Once again, God provided.
Today I parked on our newly-paved lot, walked on our new flooring, and noticed our restroom remodels are complete. Out my window I can see the HP Ministry Center, which now houses HIM Counseling, the 2:20 Food Pantry, our Youth Ministry, production studio, quilting group, and classroom space. This may also be where PECE (our Eritrean Church friends) will gather to worship in the future. Selling the old, in-need-of-major-repairs 2:20 Center on 32nd and relocating those ministries took a massive amount of effort, but it’s a tremendous blessing to all involved.
Our Staff has performed heroically through all of the turbulence this year. They’ve taken on extra tasks, pastored hurting folks, and also relied upon God in their own grief. I could not be more thankful, and we could not be more thankful for the love you have shown us.
Over the next month, we’ll be sharing about new Highland Park members, we’ll be celebrating several baptisms, and we’ll tell you some big dreams God has placed on our hearts.
We have the opportunity to enter 2025 on healthy, financial footing. We are about $18,000 ahead of our year-to-date need (September-December). That’s great, and we’d love to double that margin before we close 2024 for two reasons:
1. November and December are traditionally months of solid giving. May-August are much more up in the air. We’d like to be plenty ahead before we get to that part of the year.
2. The insurance world has shifted dramatically in the last few years. When the 100mph windstorm hit two summers ago, inflicting major damage on our roof, we filed a claim which was met. However, after an exhaustive exploration of options, we concluded this year that we’d need to massively increase our deductible in order to retain insurance. What does this mean? It means we need to have a very healthy fund ready to pay for anything short of catastrophic damage to our campus.
If you are in the position to consider an extra, end-of-year gift, we would be extremely grateful. Any donation given electronically by December 31st, postmarked by the 31st, or brought to the office by the 31st will count towards your 2024 giving. You can give safely online here. You can even set-up recurring donations from this site.
You can also deliver or mail checks to Highland Park Christian Church at 5708 E 31st St, Tulsa, OK, 74135.
Thank you for praying with us and sharing in this ministry with us,
Brian Jennings
